Pentala is a perfect destination for a daytrip to Espoo’s archipelago! Dive into the world of fishermen at Espoo City Museum’s Archipelago Museum and see how the townsfolk used to spend their summers. The nature trail that starts from the museum area takes visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the Pentalanjärvi lake and the sandy Diksand beach.

Access to the museum area is free.

Gurli’s house can only be visited on a paid guided tour.

Tickets to Gurli’s house: adults €7, concession €5, under 18s free.

How to get there

You can reach Pentala island with one of Espoo’s scheduled archipelago boats or your own vessel. In addition to this, several companies provide charter boats and boat taxi services in Espoo’s archipelago.

Scheduled Archipelago Boats

During summer 2021, the scheduled archipelago boats will run as follows:

Tue–Sun 5 June – 8 August;
Sat–Sun 14–15, 21–22 and 28–29 August.

These boats do not operate on Mondays.

Tickets for the scheduled archipelago boats

A return ticket for Pentala: €6

Under-7s travel free when accompanied by a person with a paid ticket.

A +68 Sports wristband holder with one friend who is 18 or over travel for free.

The accepted payment methods on the scheduled archipelago boats include cash and debit cards.

Dogs are welcome on these boats.

Private boats

The Archipelago Museum’s jetty has berths for 10 private boats. Mooring is allowed for a maximum of 4 hours. Staying the night moored to the jetty or on the island is not allowed.

The museum’s jetty can best be accessed by boats up to 7 metres in length. The tip of the jetty is reserved for the scheduled archipelago boats. If you are arriving on a kayak, you can easily land next to the shoreline fence.

Please note that the Esbo Segelförening club’s jetty is reserved for restaurant Paven’s customers and the sailing club’s members only.

Visits to Gurli’s house

Preliminary dates and group sizes for summer 2021:

In Finnish sat-sun at 11:30, 13:30 and 15:30

In Swedish on Saturdays at 13:00

Due to the Covid-19 situation, only 5 person / visit. Visits must be prebooked at the Museum shop or by calling on the same day: +358 (0)43 8252 641 (10:00-15:00).
Tickets must be purchased from the Museum shop in Villa Rosengård before the visit (7€ / 5€/ Museum Card). Visit begins from the front steps of the Gurli’s house.

During the tour, a guide will tell you the story of Arvid and Gurli Nyholm, the fisherman and his wife who once lived in the house. The interior decoration of Gurli’s house has been preserved in its original state and is sure to spark feelings of nostalgia.

Pentala Archipelago Museum is open for groups from 10 am to 5 pm:

  • Mon-Fri 18.5.- 4.6.2021 and 30.8.-9.9.2021
